Whoa. Now this was an onscreen pairing that I never would’ve thought of.
MBC’s upcoming drama, tentatively titled The Moon That Embraces The Sun [해를 품은 달], has just announced its two leads, and it already looks like they’re going to be an interesting couple. Set in the Joseon era, Kim Soo Hyun will be playing King Lee Hwon, who develops romantic feelings for a shaman named Wol, who shall be played by none other than Han Ga In. The drama is described to be a historical fusion fantasy, and it’s based on a novel penned by Jung Eun Gwol, known for her other novel that was also adapted into a hit drama — which all of you should know –“Sungkyunkwan Scandal.”
I personally don’t know how this pairing will play out. For one, I’m super duper excited that Kim Soo Hyun is coming back in a drama! I absolutely loved him to bits as Sam Dong in Dream High, and I really thought he was the highlight of the entire drama. But while I love him, I’m also reminded that there’s a six year age gap between him and Han Ga In, so I really don’t know how the chemistry between them will work out, given that they have onscreen chemistry in the first place. Not a huge fan of Han Ga In, though I definitely think she’s capable of acting well if only she chose her projects better. Hopefully this will be the project that really gets her career rollin’ again.
I did love Sungkyunkwan Scandal up until the last 4 episodes, so I’m looking forward to this drama adaptation of Jung Eun Gwol’s novel. Is it too much to hope that it will be just as cracktastic as its predecessor?
This will be Kim’s next drama project after Dream High, which will be his comeback to the small screen exactly on year to date. (Dream High aired in January earlier this year). As for Han Ga In, this will be her drama comeback since the drama-that-I-don’t-want-to-remember-because-it-was-so-bad.
The Moon Embracing Sun will succeed air sometime in January of next year, following Me Too, Flower.
